Alexander Plakida, Deputy Board Chairman of ACIG Group of Companies, becomes a member of the Steering Committee of the UN Global Compact Local Network in the Russian Federation

On February 21, 2014, Alexander Plakida, Deputy Board Chairman of ACIG Group of Companies, was elected as a member of the Steering Committee of the UN Global Compact National Network by the decision of the General Meeting of the UNGC Local Network.

At present, the members of the UNGC Local Network in Russia are top executive managers of the Russian leading companies and organizations, among them State Corporation “Vneshekonombank”, OJSC "PC "ROSNEFT", OJSC "LUKOIL", OJSC "Sakhalin Energy" and other institutional associations of industrialists and entrepreneurs.

In 2014, the key priorities of the Local Network development were defined as follows: persistence of leadership in human rights, labour relations, environment improvement, anti-corruption, as well as the Network’s institutional development and extension of the sustainable development initiatives.

«Direct participation in the UN Global Compact Network promotes sharing experiences between companies, promoting the principles of social responsibility, more effective cooperation and alignment of strategic partnerships. Having joined the Global Compact, ACIG declares that it shares the commitment that business practice based on the universal principals contributes to sustainability, fairness and representativeness of the global market and facilitates formation of prosperous and thriving societies," said Alexander Plakida.

* The then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan proposed Global Compact On Human Rights, Labour, Environment, in Address to World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland) on January 31, 1999. The Global Compact was officially was officially launched at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 26, 2000. Ever since, the UNGC has been the major global initiative encouraging businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. At present, the Compact includes thousands of participants from over 100 countries. Its major objective is demonstrating and ensuring social legitimacy of business and markets.
