Speech of Viktor Tolmachev, Chairman of the ACIG Supervisory Board, before participants of the extended meeting of the Coordination Council and Board of the non-profit partnership for promotion of trade and economic cooperation "Eurasian Business Council", March 18, 2013, city of Moscow.
Dear colleagues!
Consistent and dynamic development of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space of three countries within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Community entails transfer to a qualitatively different and higher stage of integration process - creation of the Eurasian Economic Union. The upcoming prospects not only create new opportunities for furthering cooperation between the states involved, but already now they place increased demands, set new goals and more complex challenges to national employers' associations and individual members of the business community, in particular, in the context of the Russian Federation’s accession to the World Trade Organization and the expected accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. I believe that the Eurasian Business Council has established a reputation as an effective mechanism for high-level engagement in expert dialogue of public agencies and a wide range of subjects of trade and economic relations.
This provision allows us to view the Council as an effective factor of advocacy and practical involvement of the business community in the recommendations development activities, and subsequent transfer of integrated view of business on the major issues of forming a single industrial, transportation, energy and agricultural policy to the state and inter-state level. We should also pay separate attention to the parallel involvement of EurAsEC Member States in the development of other regional associations and work of program office of the UN organizations realizing major infrastructure projects (initiatives) producing noticeable impact on the morphology of industries and the dynamics of their subsequent development in the Central Asian Republics. Thus, to make high professional level recommendations, all the main political, economic and military-political processes within the study area should be examined by the Council Working groups.
Is not a complete list of challenges the Eurasian Business Council faces. It requires critical thinking of possible solutions of tasks, associated with them. However, I strongly believe that a comprehensive approach to their solution will enhance the theoretical work on the problems in the said area and substantial saturation of representative, educative, coordination and practical activities of the Eurasian Business Council.
Thank you for your attention.
