Final of the national championship Global Management Challenge

Two final stages of the national Global Management Challenge (GMC) championship on business strategy and management took place on April 12-13.  

GMC-Russia is one of the major educational projects in the field of management uniting over 5000 participants from 79 Russian regions. The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and the area of “Young Professionals” of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) with the support of Vnesheconombank and the Russian Venture Company acted as organizers of the event.  

The first day of competition took place in the business center Premier Plaza. 40 teams composed of the most promising young managers from 32 regions from all over the country took part in the final stage of the championship. Just as at the previous stages of the championship each team got a virtual company in management for the development of the strategy for making management solutions under the severe competitive conditions at the international markets modulated. Those participants whose company possessed the most expensive shares by the end of the championship became the winners.  

A round table “Personnel Reserve and Work with Talents” was held within the framework of the championship final. Representatives of the major Russian companies, such as: Rosenergoatom, FNK Group of Companies, VTB24, Oboronprom, OSK, and other major state and private organizations participated in the round table. Olga Golyshenkova, executive director of the International Association for Corporate Education noted in her opening speech the importance of holding this event: “We hope that the round table held today will contribute to the work we carry on today and will possibly warn against any future mistakes that can be prevented in such fine and complicated work being so ambiguous. Talent management is a multifaceted and extremely complicated topic in the actual implementation.”  

Aleksey Gusev, deputy director of “Young Professionals” area of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives expressed his opinion on new formats of business education: “It is important that such projects as GMC were infrastructural for the country in a good way. We have got used to understanding infrastructure as roads and bridges, but human infrastructure that is personnel that can serve our economy and is able to develop companies and country on the whole is of the same importance. This is a new personnel format.” 

The round table participants considered a number of topical issues concerning HR-field and talent management in particular as well as innovation programs for the solution of personnel deficit in the form of a lively discussion.

The following representatives of ACIG Group of Companies took an active part in the work of the round of table: Olga Vodyanova, HR-Director and Yulia Smirnova, head of the Publishing Activity Area, Chief Editor of “Strategy” Journal.

In the course of the round table Olga Vodyanova acted with a report in which she told about the successful experience in the realization of programs for the involvement of young professionals and formation of external personnel reserve at the example of the All-Russian competition on Sustainable Development of Russia organized by ACIG Group of Companies.

8 teams of professional and student leagues were recognized during the day; they passed on to the super final that took place in MMVB-RTS building on April 13.

Super final teams had been fighting for the first prize during the whole day – that is a possibility to represent the team’s country at the international final of Global Management. Prize-winners of the national championship from both leagues had been determined by the end of the day.

The evening of April 13 saw summing-up of results and awarding of the championship winners in the conference hall of the business center Premier Plaza. Teams’ finalists and the championship guests – representatives of the state authority, business, higher education institutes, and mass media took part in the ceremony.  

The team named Smt_Olimp (Moscow) representing Samotlor Group of Companies became the winners of the professional league. This is exactly the team that is going to represent Russia at the international final of the Championship which is to take place in Kyiv on April 19. The teams of Sberbank from Stavropol Krai and Novosibirsk region took the second and the third places correspondingly. At the same time, the winners of a student league became known. The first place was given to the team of the Higher School of Economics (Moscow) National Research University, the second – to the team of Rostov Economic University (Rostov region), and the third one – Buzuluk Humanitarian and Technological Institute (Orenburg region). 

All the winners received certificates, medals, and prizes. Members of the teams that took the second places were given ipad business tablets. Moreover, the winners of a student league got a possibility to be present at the international final as observers.
