70th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The first phase of the 70thsession of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) was held on May 23, 2014. The key topic of the discussion was regional connectivity for shared prosperity. The experts of the ACIG Group of Companies took part in the UN ESCAP event within the framework of the partnership between the organizations.

During the session the representatives of the UN departments and offices, members of international and intergovernmental organizations and external experts discussed the critical issues of regional cooperation, macroeconomic policy, economic and social development of the region.

The ESCAP Executive Secretary Dr. Shamshad Akhtar in her opening address expressed her gratitude to Russia for its political and financial support of the UN ESCAP activities. The Executive Secretary noted that Russia is one of the three major donors of the Commission, and it funds over 20 technical support projects in the spheres of transport, energy, ecology, statistics, disaster risk reduction, social development etc. She also underlined the high level of expert cooperation with the Russian Federation and the efficiency of collaborative project activity.

The experts of the ACIG Group of Companies in their turn consider that in the last years ESCAP became an important Partner of Russia in implementing joint projects aimed at developing the region. The ESCAP projects funded by Russia were and will remain highly sought by the countries of the region and allow achieving practical results in a wide range of cooperation issues.

Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is the main legislative body of ESCAP, reporting directly to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The aim of ESCAP is to overcome the problems of the region in the areas of macroeconomic policy, trade and investment, transport and social development by organizing projects, providing technical assistance and building the capacity of its Member States.
