Viktor Tolmachev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ACIG Group of Companies, participates in the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation

On August 20-21, 2013, the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation, organized according to the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the "Implementation of the International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013", took place in the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The main objectives of the event were promoting the international dialogue of the member countries, UN special institutions and organizations engaged in water cooperation process, as well as strengthening partnerships.

As a partner in the dialogue within the framework of the UN Global Compact, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ACIG Group of Companies Viktor Tolmachev participated in the work of the panel meeting of the conference. In his report, dedicated to the cross-border water cooperation, Viktor Tolmachev emphasized a number of provisions, such as prevention, limitation and reduction of cross-border impact, ensuring reasonable and fair use of water resources as well as the necessity to strengthen cooperation through conducting agreements and establishing joint intergovernmental bodies. Apart from that, Chairman of the ACIG Supervisory Board defined the proposals oriented on enhancing international legal system of water resources integrated management by deepening national political dialogues as the main operative tool of the Water initiative in the countries of Central Asia.

Heads of agencies and special UN institutes for development and World Bank Group participated in the conference. National delegations were represented by presidents and prime ministers of 73 UN member countries. Close attention of the Russian Federation to this event is preconditioned by direct influence of the generated recommendations on the implementation prospects of the projects on construction of the hydroelectric power chains at the Zarafshan, Fondare and Khingov rivers. Arrangements concerning this construction were made during official visits of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
