Symposium in memory of Tatyana Zaslavskaya "Social Challenges of Economic Development"

On May 16–17, 2014 the first Tatyana Zaslavskaya Symposium "Social Challenges of Economic Development" will be held in Novosibirsk. The event is organized by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration in association with the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the ACIG Group of Companies.

The Symposium is held in memory of the outstanding Russian economist and sociologist, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Tatyana Zaslavskaya. The period of her scholarly work in the Novosibirsk science campus was marked with significant achievements. The Novosibirsk School of Economic Sociology founded by T. Zaslavskaya had a significant influence on the development of social science in the second half of the twentieth century and united several generations of economists and sociologists.

The symposium is an influential discussion platform that unites theoreticians and practitioners in this field for the purpose of discussing topical issues of economy, sociology and political science.

The event will be attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets, the Rector of the RANEPA Vladimir Mau, Presidential Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Victor Tolokonskiy and several other representatives of federal and regional authorities and local government, as well as leading Russian scientists and experts.

The key topics of the symposium will be the socio-economic development of Siberia and the interaction between the state and civil society institutions. The participants will review the research model of social change in the sphere of labor market, demographic processes and social inequality within the framework of relevant sessions.

There is a number of events associated with the Symposium to be held on May 15-17:

  • The International Young Scientists Conference "State, Society and Science: the Horizons of Development" that will allow students, postgraduate students and young scientists to discuss a wide range of topical issues of social sciences and humanities.
  • The discussion platforms of the Siberian Institute of Management – a branch of the RANEPA: Political urban studies; Science and education through the eyes of the young; Accelerated Siberian development – the future of the Russian economy.
  • The 2nd Student Business Incubators Forum, within which the best domestic and foreign practices of business incubators will be discussed.
  • Regional selection of participants for the 4th Annual Contest of Research and Project Works of Students and Post-Graduate Students "Young Professionals for Sustainable Future of Russia". In the framework of this selection the students and graduates of the Siberian Federal District will be given a unique opportunity to communicate with leading experts, get a qualified assessment of their ideas and projects as well as recommendations for their development.

In addition, the meetingof the Scientific andMethodological Council of the Siberian Federal DistrictUniversities regarding the issues of training personnel for thesystem of state and municipal managementwill be held within the framework of the Symposium.

The events are hosted by the SiberianInstitute of Management – a branch of the RussianPresidential Academy of NationalEconomy and Public Administrationandthe Institute of Economicsand Industrial EngineeringSB RAS.
